Elsie Soenke married Earl Giese in 1940. She lived her life on the farm and began a teaching career in 1934 at Barr School, Lincoln Township. Later she taught at Cleona School in Scott County and taught at Walcott School. When her children were grown, she became a substitute teacher in Davenport, Schools. Teaching young children was her passion. She tutored children in her home. She was passionate about organic gardening before it was even popular, and preserving food. She was also an excellent cook and seamstress. She was involved with the Pythian Sisters, Walcott Temple 192, The American Legion Auxiliary 548 and was a 4-H leader for the Blue Grass Sunshine Workers Club.
For 19 years she worked in the textile department of the Mississippi Valley Fair.
She leaves her daughters, Reva Giese, Sally Giese, Marlyn Thompson, Annette Giese and a son Stanley Giese.
