George Edward Young, Sr., was born on 13 May 1860 in Bournville, Ross County, in southern Ohio, son of Angus 'Hanks' Young (1822 - 1864) and Nancy (Chapman) Young (1829 - unknown). On 31 December 1879, George married Emma Jane Byrd (5 Aug 1859 - 19 Apr 1940) in Ross County, Ohio. They had ten children together: James Robert Young (1881 - 1948), Ella Young Cooper (1883 - 1930), Irvin Jerry Young Sr (1885 - 1964), George Edward Young Jr. (1886 - 1960), Homer Young (1890 - 1943), Anna Elizabeth Young Pettiford (1893 - 1962), twins Cora Bertha Young Cooper (1897 - 1958) and Nora M Young Cooper (1897 - 1958), and Ida Mae Young Redman (1900 - 1969). George was buried in Bloomingburg Cemetery in southern Ohio next to his wife Emma Jane.

Nora died in 1974 and Cora died in 1958
