He married 1/wife Gerusha (Jerusha) Adeline (Rice or Rise) Warner on 20 Jan 1844 Oquawka, Henderson Co.,IL. She had 3 children by 1st husband Thadeus Warner: Adaline E. Warner, Ann Eliza Warner, Thaddeus C. Warner. Julius Gifford divorced Gerusha-Jerusha Adaline Gifford 19 May 1859 Oquawka, IL., on grounds that she never divorced her 1st husband Thaddeus Warner who she had married 16 March 1833 Erie Co., PA., prior to Julius marrying her in 1859 in Oquawka, Henderson Co., IL.

He married much younger 12 year old 2nd wife Sophia Foster 29 Oct. 1859 Oquawka, Henderson Co., IL.,
daughter of William Foster and 1/w Mandana Townsend of Oquawka, Henderson Co., IL. They had one child: Hattie Louisa Gifford who married George Franklin Pope and lived in
Camden, Ouachita Co. Arkansas.
