Roy died of a bullet wound received in a gunfight with the chief of police in Assumption the night before. The chief was also wounded. Roy had admitted to several other shootings and was under indictment for a bank robbery in Ash Grove, Mo. and was being sought for questioning in another bank robbery.
He is the son of Cora Gann of Pana; has two sisters and a brother, Howard, 18. Born near Conway, Ark. he has many relatives in the Ozarks including his father.Two small children are in Springfield, Mo. with Mrs. Gann's parents. Roy left a barber shop in Springfield, Mo. 18 months earlier to embark on his crime spree. He was rivaling a reputation of John Dillinger.
