Walter Calaway "WC" Blankenship, 83, of Clear Fork, WV
passed away December 1, 2011 in Raleigh General Hospital.
He was born August 25, 1928 in Clear Fork, WV, a son of the
late Calaway W. and Charlotte "Lottie" Miller Blankenship. W.C. was a US Army Korean War Veteran having served with the9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Division. He was a 1948 graduate of Oceana High School, a member of UMWA Local Union 7604 and worked for Eastern and Peabody Coal Companies for 43 years. WC dedicated his life to God on April 16, 2011 and attended the Clear Fork Advent Christian Church. He had a love for the outdoors, enjoyed hunting and fishing, working on his farm, and spending time with his family. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers S.D. Blankenship, Franklin Blankenship and King Blankenship, a sister Elga Short and his son Craig Steven Blankenship.Walter was the loving husband of Erma Blankenship for 59 years; the proud father of Pamela (Steve) Weaver and Valerie (Denny) Miller; grandfather of Trevor (Beth) Miller and children
Weston and Jacey, Megan (Brandon) French and son Brayden
with Asher due in February. Rachel (Chris) Seymour, Andrew
(Kristen) Weaver and son Austin with Baby Weaver due this
coming summer, Ryan (Katie) Pope and son Christian, Eric
Blankenship, Adam Blankenship, special grandson Larry
(Beth) Jones and children Danielle, Chelsea and Larry, and a great granddaughter Madison; three sisters Eula Bailey, Helen (Don) Toler, and Sue Childress; a brother-in-law Roy Short; and a host of other loving family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday December 4, 2011 at Clear Fork Advent Christian Church with Pastor Eddie B. Aliff and Bro. Andrew Weaver officiating. Friends may gather with the family from 1:00 PM until time of service at the church. His cremains will be laid to rest at a later date in the Blankenship
Cemetery, Clear Fork, WV, with Military Graveside Rites
conducted by the Wyoming County Veterans Honor Guard.
