'Brig' Young
Theodore C. "Brig" Young. 83. of Perkins Pavilion died Thursday in Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Robert Mays officiating. Masonic rites wilt be conducted by S.H. Jackson. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery.

Mr. Young was born in Unionville, Mo., on Feb. 22, 1901. He was graduated from Unionville High School and moved to Hastings in 1919. He graduated from Hastings College in 1923 and taught high school at Sidney, Iowa and Durango, Colo., before moving back to Hastings in 1927 where he became the director of physical education and a coach at Hastings College from 1927 to 1932.

He married Ruby Damme on July 18, 1928. She died in 1980. He became a special agent for Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance in 1932 and later was an ameritus agent for them. He was a past president of the Hastings Life Underwriters Association.

He was a member and past deacon of the First Presbyterian Church. He was past president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce in 1936 and past president of the Senior Chamber of Commerce in 1946. He was the first executive director of the Big Brothers in Hastings from 1939 until 1975. He served as a member of the committee for Boy Scout Troop 200 for many years and was active in the Hastings Community Chest.

He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Elks Lodge, the YMCA and Midwest Lodge No. 317. He was a member of the Scottish Rite, was elected master of Kodosh of the Hastings Consistory and commander of Mt. Nebo Commandry. He was a member of the Scottish Rite, York Rite, Tehama Temple, and past potentate and 50 year member of the Tehama Shrine. He was a past president of the Shrine Directors' Association of North America, past president of the Central States Shrine Association and a board member ameritus of the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children in Minneapolis, Minn. He received the Sertoma Club's Service to Mankind award in 1981 and was a member of the Adams County Republican Committee.

He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. J.M. (Erma) Marsh of Hastings and Mrs. Wayman (Mabel) Williams of Sacramento, Calif.; one brother, Gilbert of Santa Rosa, Calif.; five grandchildren; and three great¬grandchildren. Memorials may be given to the T.C. "Brig" and Ruby Young Transportation Fund for Crippled Children or the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children. Butler-VoUand Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
