Mrs. Young was born in Burr and was a graduate of Sterling, High School and Peru State Teachers College and taught at North Platte High School and Peru College. She graduated In 1926 from the University of Nebraska and prior to moving to Hastings taught at schools in Burr and Sterling. She later taught at Hastings High School and, for 19 years, at Hastings College.
She was active with intramural sports and had organized sports programs at schools throughout the state. She had served as a recreation supervisor for the city of Hastings and during World War II had been recreation supervisor at the Harvard Air Base and the Hastings Naval Ammunition Depot. She was the executive secretary for the YWCA and had served on the Hastings Park Board and the State Hospital Psychiatric Board for Nurses and was president of Alcott PTA. She had been a Cub Scout den mother and was active as a recreation director with the State Camp-fire Girls at Crete.
She was a member of First Presbyterian church, Church Circle No. 5, the YWCA, the B and PW Club, the National Association of University Women, the Shrine Auxiliary and Acacia Chapter No. 39, Order of the Eastern Star. She received an Eastern Star 50-year membership pin in 1977.
Surviving are her husband T.C. "Brig"; a son, William of Dallas, five grand¬daughters and a great-grandchild. Friends may contribute to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children. Butler-Volland Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
