Marie M. Stuart of Bremerton entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Dec. 13, 2011, at the age of 94.

Marie was born Dec. 4, 1917, to James and Thankful (Deming) Pittman in Mohall, N.D. When she was four years old her mother and five siblings were left fatherless in Castle Rock, where they had tough times in the Great Depression with no income except what her mother could earn as a cleaning woman. Her mother's sister, Auntie Maude showed up to help raise the six kids.

In 1936 Marie was a member of the graduating class at Castle Rock High School. On Oct. 2, 1938 she married her beloved husband Chuck, and they were married just one week short of 66 years when he entered Heaven Sept. 27, 2004.

Marie was an active member of Lincoln Avenue Bible Church for over 72 years and was also a member of the Fat Ladies Club. She enjoyed many personal interests including quilting, knitting, camping, being a Sunday school teacher and generally just having a good time enjoying everything she did. Marie and her three sisters came each year to her son, John's, eighth grade classroom to share their stories of growing up in Castle Rock during the depression.

Marie was preceded in death by her mother; her husband; two brothers, Edward and Lyle; three sisters, Nettie, Lucille, and Rose; and a son-in-law, Wayne Schmidt.

Treasuring her memory are her children, Dorothy (Jim), Beth, John (Barbara) and Jim (Patti); 10 grandchildren; 23 grandchildren; and Joe(Cheri) Vlach her "honorary son".

A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Jan. 7 at Lincoln Avenue Bible Church.

Memorial donations may be made to LABC Youth Camp Scholarships.
