JOPLIN, Mo. —
Wilson Reider Gray, age 92, of Joplin, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011, at Freeman Hospital, following a brief illness.
Wilson was born on March 10, 1919 in Union City, Okla., the son of the late Rev. William David Gray and Katherine Savannah (Reider) Gray.
He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corp. in Arkansas. He served in the United States Army Corp and was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Jolly Rogers, 90th Bomb Group, and a member of the 400th Bomb Squadron having served in Australia and New Guinea.
He married Virginia Radford on Aug. 24, 1946, in Alba, Mo. Together they made their home in Joplin.
He worked 39 years as a mechanic for R&S Chevrolet, retiring in 1984.
He was a past member of Villa Heights Methodist church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent. He was also a former member of Byers Avenue Methodist Church. He has been a member of Forest Park Baptist Church for the past 26 years.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Virginia Gray, Joplin; one son, Gary Gray and wife, Cathy, Joplin; two daughters, Carolyn Allen, and finance, Ronald Brenner, Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., and Donna David and husband, Michael, Seneca, Mo.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Forest Park Baptist Church. Rev. John Swadley will officiate. Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The pallbearers will be Michael David, Jeremiah David, Kenneth Murdick, Ian Gray, Paul Edens, and Joseph Miller. The family will receive friends 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.
Memorial contributions may be made to Forest Park Baptist Church Building Fund.
