Ben was active with the Boy Scouts of America for over 60 years. He was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout in 1943 while active with Troop 71, Plandome, New York. He was the first Scoutmaster of Troop 34 at St. Paul's, Riverside, CT through which hundreds of boys passed during his time. He then went on to serve in roles for Greenwich scouting including District Commissioner, Order of the Arrow Advisor, a member of the Council Executive Board and various Council Committees. He served as Scoutmaster for the Council's National Jamboree contingents to Idaho (1969) and Pennsylvania (1973). He also lead the 1971 World Jamboree in Japan and served as a Jamboree advisor afterward. He was awarded the Silver Beaver and the Founders Award.
Ben was a lifelong sailor, golfer and was a very devoted family man. He was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Eleanor (nee Barlow) Evans. He is survived by two sons and family.
