When Franklin arrived in Vietnam, he was assigned to A Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry, 25th Infantry Division, USARV.
On November 03, 1969, A Company proceeded to a location 2 kilometers west of Phuoc My to relieve the Recon Platoon who were established in a blocking position. At 1440 hours, A Company requested a Dust-off for one dead soldier and one wounded soldier from a bobby trap that was detonated. The dead soldier was a lawyer in the Army Reserves, just doing his time, when he stepped on the booby trapped mine.
Survived by his wife, Yong C. James of 1518 North Collington Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland.
