His obituary appeared in the The Middletown Times Herald Record, on Monday, June 21, 1965 and reads as follows: "Stanley McDowell, Otisville -- Stanley McDowell, 59, Town of Mount Hope, died Sunday at his home. A resident of the Town of Mount Hope for 40 years, Mr. McDowell was born January 16, 1906 in Westbrookville, son of Nathan Richard and Chalania Alvira Van Keuren McDowell. He married Jeanette McLean in Otisville April 5, 1925. She survives. A retired trainman for the Ontario and Western Railway, Mr. McDowell was a member of the Westbrookville Methodist Church. Other survivors include two sons, Duane, Slate Hill; and Lyle, Otisville; three daughters, Mrs Albert Krull, Bloomingburg; Mrs. Vito Deserto, New Hampton; and Mrs. Richard Moulton, Newburgh; a sister, Mrs. Chalania Alvira McBride, Fallsburgh; four brothers, Edward and Vincent, both of Middletown; William N., Liberty; and Oscar of Kings Park, Long Island; 14 grandchildren; nieces; and nephews. Private funeral services will be held at the Cornelius and Dodd Funeral Home, Middletown, at the convenience of the family. The Reverend Ronald S. James will officiate. Burial will be in Westbrookville Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to charities."
