LeVant Dodge The son of Daniel and Meleson (Haywood) Dodge was born 09 May 1838 in Trumball, Ashtabula County, Ohio. The 1850 census of Trumbull Co list his name as William Levant.
Dodge married twice; #1. Lucinda M. Green (1838-1895), the couple were parents to one son, Ernest Green Dodge (1870-1954) #2. Mary Helen Lamson (1861-1945) in 1897, no children.

Dodge served a one-year enlistment as a Pvt. Co C, 177th Ohio Inf. In 1895 LeVant Dodge was elected commander of the local Capt. James West post of the G.A.R., and in 1906 and 1907 was elected as Commander of the GAR Department of Kentucky. He and his wife Mary regularly attended the annual national encampments.

With the retirement of Berea College President Fairchild in spring of 1890, a concern was raised that affairs of the town would be controlled by someone outside of the community, It was with strong political connections of Dodge that a group of Berea leaders acquired a city charter in a relatively short period of time. Berea as incorporated on April 04, 1890.

At the age of 86, Dodge died of pulmonary embolism on 06 March 1925, he is buried in the Berea cemetery. Div. E, Sec. XI, Lot 4.
