Amanda was first married to a man named William Odykirk. They were all from Cass County, Michigan Cassopolis, to be exact. . After the birth of their first child in 1877, they moved up north to the Cheboygan area, which is where my great great grandmother was born. Soon after the birth of their third child, William Odykirk just left and they divorced for reasons unknown. A few years later he turned up in Cass County with a new wife and children. Meanwhile, Amanda met and remarried Stephen Miller, a lumberjack and bachelor 19 years her senior. They married, moved to Alanson and had more children. Stephen Miller is a very highly regarded man in our family. My great grandmother spoke of him very fondly.

As for William Odykirk, Amanda's first husband. In his later years, William came back to Michigan. At one time, he lived in an old shed on some land next to his daughter Nobody in the family really never knew William Odykirk, or "Old Will" as he was called and nobody seemed to care. He moved to the Cass county men's home in Jefferson township and died there. Nobody claimed his body and he was donated to U of M. For the year 1932, the bodies donated were cremated and buried in a mass grave in Ann Arbor.
We have no clue who his parents were, or if Odykirk was even his real last name. He is a complete mystery.
