James M. Rogers, 75, of Columbus, died suddenly Sunday evening, Jan. 1, 2012, at his home.

Mr. Rogers retired in 1988 after 25 years with Cummins Engine Company. He also worked for his grandfather at Zaharako Dairy and Dooley Transfer Company many years ago.

He was a member of First Christian Church, Diesel Workers Union, Bartholomew County Historical Society, Mill Race Center and Mall Walkers.

He was a toy tractor collector and made and displayed wooden replicas of Cummins Engines, race cars and antique fire engines at fairgrounds and festivals throughout Indiana. He especially loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street with the Rev. Al White officiating. Calling will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday and from noon until service time Monday. Burial will be at Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society , the Susan G. Komen Foundation or the American Diabetes Association .

Born in Columbus July 14, 1936, Mr. Rogers was the son of William Fenton Rogers Sr. and Mary Kathryn Zaharako Rogers.

Mr. Rogers is survived by daughters, Sandy (Terry) Axsom of Columbus, Vickie Cline of Rogers, Ark., and Pam (Rob) Boles of North Vernon; a brother, Robert (Susie) Rogers of Columbus; a sister-in-law, Shirley Rogers of Columbus; grandchildren, Justin Carr of Goosecreek, SC, and Curtis and Stacey Axsom of Columbus; and six great-grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Cynthia Jane Rogers; brothers, William F. and Thomas Rogers; and a sister Carol Sue.
