Carl A. LeVander of Stamford passed away at home on Saturday, December 3 in the presence of his loving wife, Grace.

He was born in Chicago on April 30, 1930, the son of the late Loretto LeVander of Louisville, KY and Carl LeVander of Sweden. He graduated from St. Mel High School where he was colonel of the all-school ROTC. He graduated from the American Academy of Art in Chicago. Carl served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was assigned to the Pentagon where worked on a classified Army intelligence magazine. In New York City he worked as a creative director at J. Walter Thompson advertising agency, where he serviced national and international accounts. Carl was the recipient of CLIO awards.

A prize-winning watercolor painter, Carl was a member of the Stamford Art Association and the Art Society of Old Greenwich. A founding member of St. Leo Church, he served as a lector and Eucharistic minister. He was active in the Christian Family Movement, Cursillo and Bible Study. He and his wife made pilgrimages to Rome, Medjugorje and Israel.

He enjoyed golf, skiing, tennis and sailing. He was a member of the Darien Cotillion dance club, long time member of the Halloween Yacht Club and a Greenwich Symphony patron. Carl was predeceased by his son James. He is survived by Grace his loving wife of 56 years. He is also survived by his daughter Carleen and husband Bill of Newbury Park, CA; son Mark and wife Diana of Wilton, CT; son Steven and wife Sue of Torrington, CT; daughter-in-law Cyndy of Camarillo, CA; grandchildren Meagan, Tyler, Katie, Carson, Chelsea and Julian; brother-in-law James Casey and wife Michiko of Las Vegas, NV.

The family will welcome friends on the evening of Tuesday, December 6 at the Leo P. Gallagher Funeral Home at 2900 Summer Street, Stamford from 4 to 8 P.M. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday December 7 at 10 A.M. at St. Leo Church, 26 Roxbury Road at Long Ridge Road, Stamford. Interment will follow in Long Ridge Union Cemetery, Erskine Road Stamford. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make donations to either www.parkinsoninfo.org or www.veteranssupport.org.
