Rachel Elizabeth Mann was born to Eleanor Routh and Stephen Gilette Mann on 19 Sep 1842 in Dandridge, Jefferson, Tennessee. Both parents died approximately three months apart in 1846, leaving Rachel orphaned before her fourth birthday.

Rachel's grandmother, Elizabeth Mashman Routh, took her into her home. Rachel was later cared for by her uncle, Reverend Jacob Routh.

In Nov 1851, at the age of eight, Rachel's Uncle Routh, and his mother, Elizabeth Mashman Routh, traveled from Jefferson County, Tennessee by wagon to the county of Dallas, Texas. Jacob Routh is known in history as one of the earliest settlers, ministers, and businessmen in Texas.

Rachel and Jacob Clemens Skiles Jr. married 11 Sep 1861 in Collin County, Texas. They were blessed with seven children.

Rachel died at the age of 48, twelve years after giving birth to her youngest son, (my grandfather) Jacob Clemment (Jake/Clem) Skiles.
