GILES, Claude Atlas, 76, of Belspring, went home to be with the Lord after losing his battle with cancer on Tuesday, September 24, 2002. He was born in Parrott, Va. on October 22, 1925, to the late Atlas B. and Effie Hamilton Giles. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dallas H. Giles of Belspring; two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda G. and Larry W. Gilbert, Sr., Rebecca G. and Keith A. Hamblin, Sr., all of Belspring; four grandchildren, Larry W. Gilbert, Jr. and wife, Rebecca, Crystal G. Moore and husband, Randy, Keith Alan Hamblin, Jr. and fiance, Jessica McKinney, all of Belspring, and Beth H. Cooke and husband, Robert of Clayton, N.C.; two great-grandchildren, Brooke Moore and Daniel Cooke; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Josephine G. and Clyde Bruce of Belspring, Gerlean G. and Donald Bruce of Fairlawn, Cova G. Graham of New River; a brother and sister-in-law, Harry R. and Shirley Giles of Belspring; two special nephews, Donnie Bruce and Mike Edwards; and a host of other relatives and friends. Claude served in the U.S. Marines with the 1 S T Division, 3 R D Battalion, I Company during World War II in Guadalcanal, Pelieu, Okinawa, and China. He was a member of the Fairlawn Church of God, a member of Virginia May Lodge #38 A.F.&A.M. of Radford, and was also a Shriner. He retired from RAAP Hercules, Inc. in February 1988 after 38 years of service. Funeral services will be conducted at the Fairlawn Church of God, Route 114. The body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2002, and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the church. Funeral services will be held at the Fairlawn Church of God on Friday, September 27, 2002, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Joseph Strazzire officiating. Interment will follow in the Giles Family Cemetery, Belspring, with military honors conducted by VFW Post #1184 and Masonic Rites conducted by Virginia May Lodge #38 of Radford. Masonic members will assemble at the cemetery at 2 p.m. The family would like to extend a very special thanks to Dr. McCoy, Dr. Ojomo, and all of the staff at the NRV Cancer Center and to Carilion Hospice nurses, Pam, Judy, and Kathy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Carilion NRV Hospice, 707 Randolph Street, Radford, Va. 24141. Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, Blacksburg.
