John D. Hyatt, age 83, passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at his residence.

He was born on January 25, 1928 in Sedalia, Missouri, the youngest of 7 children to Luther Emmett and Nell Myrtle Hyatt.

He received his undergraduate degree from Washington University and Master's Library Science degree at the University of Michigan.

He served in libraries in Racine Wisconsin, Anniston Alabama, and Fort Worth Texas before becoming Director of Rosenberg Library in 1964-serving in this capacity until 1992.

In retirement he was active in several organizations: Aids Coalition, the Niigata Sister City Program, volunteered in various school libraries and developed the Robbie Farmer Memorial Library at Moody Methodist Church.

He had a passion for music and sang in various church choirs and the Houston Symphony Chorus.

He also loved gardening and spending time on the beach and making people laugh.

He was preceded in death by his son David; his parents and siblings.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter and also nieces and nephews
