LAKE MILLS—Mr, and Mrs. Eugene Sarno accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Adrian Saxerud to Kansas City and returned with the three week old boy who is theirs by adoption. The grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Saxerud and Mr. and Mrs. Amund Fosnes. The baby will be named John Robert.

∼Deputy Saxerud and Deputy William Heffernan were shot and killed by a man they had arrested for drunk driving. As they took the man into the processing area of the jail the man pulled out a concealed handgun and shot them both, killing them almost instantly. The suspect was convicted and sentenced to a lengthy prison sentence.
Deputy Saxerud was survived by his wife and two daughters.
