He boarded the Titanic at Cherbourg as a first class passenger (ticket number PC 17562, £27.14's 5d). He occupied cabin D-43.
Ovies died in the sinking, his body was later recovered by the MacKay Bennett (#189):
The body was eventually identified by J. A. Rodriguez of Rodriguez & Co., Havana. It was initially buried at Fairview Cemetery in Halifax on 3 May but was exhumed and reburied in the Catholic Mount Olivet Cemetery on 15 May 1912.
