Helen E. Sprecher, 80, of Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Middlesex Township, formerly of Carlisle, died Wednesday, April 5, 2000 at the center.

Born on April 27, 1919 in Lynchberg, Va., she was the daughter of Herman W. and Gracie Edna Mays Gilliam Sr.

An employee of the former Bellaire House Restaurant, Carlisle, she was a member of Washington Avenue First Baptist Church, Hagerstown, Md., and was active in the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.

Mrs. Sprecher is survived by a son, Arthur "Jack" Sprecher of Carlisle; a daughter, Diana Winston of Jackson, Miss., three brothers, Earl Gilliam of Holiday, Fla., Clarence Gilliam of Austin, Texas and Thomas Gilliam of Hagerstown, Md.; a sister, Florence George of Williamsport, Md.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Glenn E. "Nick" Sprecher. Services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in Hoffman Roth Funeral Home, 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle. Burial will be in LeTort Cemetery, Middlesex Township.

Friends may call Friday from 6 to 8 p.m at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 2209 Forest Hills Drive, Harrisburg, PA 17112.
