SSgt. Courtney Jo Rush, age 27 of Cottageville, SC, formerly of Aledo, IL, died Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at her home. Services are 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 12, 2012 at the Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo, IL. Burial is in the Aledo Cemetery with full military honors being provided by Scott Air Force Base. Visitation is 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at Fippinger's where a memorial fund will be established. On-line condolences can be made at www.fippingerfuneralhome.com.

She was born November 15, 1984 in Galesburg, IL, a daughter of Rick and Gail Meminger Rush. She graduated from Aledo High School in 2003.

Courtney enlisted in the United States Air Force in June 2003. She completed her basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX. She then completed technical training at Shepphard Air Force Base in Witchita Falls, TX and Little Rock Air Force Base, Arkansas.

She was stationed at Davis-Monthan Air Force in Tucson, AZ where she was deployed to Kuwait for Operation Iraqi Freedom. She returned to Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina where she was deployed to Qatar during Operation Enduring Freedom. Her most recent position was quality control, specializing as maintenance crew chief for C-17 aircraft, a position she was chosen to do by her superiors as a result of her dedication and love for the Air Force.

Courtney enjoyed her dogs, horseback riding, volunteering and doing charity work in the Charleston area.

She is survived by her parents: Rick and Gail Rush, of Aledo two brothers: Jayson (Jessie) Thomson, of Aledo; Clayton Rush of Cedar Rapids, IA; her maternal grandmother: Patty Meminger of Aledo; one niece: Natalie Joe Thomson, one nephew: Grayson Louis Thomson; a very special friend, Michael Johnston of Charleston, SC; eight aunts, four uncles and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Wayne Meminger, great grandmother: Agnes Hudson, paternal grandparents: William and Irene Rush and one uncle: Patrick Rush.
