John R. Hilsabeck passed away at his home in Hastings Thursday, after an illness of many months. Mr. Hilsabeck and family were former Doniphan people, moving from their farm one miles southeast of town to their present home in Hasting about 10 years ago, and have a large circle of friends who extend sympathy to the family. On account of the heavy rain and the conditions of the roads people from here were unable to attend the funeral which was held on Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Methodist church. John R. Hilsabeck, who passed away at his home in Hastings on Thursday, May 19th, was a resident of this vicintiy for twenty years, moving to Hastings from his home, one-half mile east and one-half mile south of Doniphan nine years ago. He was highly respected by all who knew him. John Richard Hilsabeck was born in Greene county, Ind., July 19, 1847. When a child he moved with his parents to Woodford county, Ill., where he united with the Methodist Episcopal church early in life. He was married to Martha J. Kirk of Woodford county, Ill., August 18, 1870. To this union was born six children: Mrs. J. W. Proctor of Hastings, Neb.; B. J. Hilsabeck of Kenesaw, Neb.; C. H. Hilsabeck of Henry, Neb.; Mrs. E. J. Alcorn of Hastings, Neb.; Lieut. Clyde Hilsabeck of Fort Benjamin Harrison, Ind. One child preceded him in death. In 1890 Mr. Hilsabeck and family moved to Doniphan, where he resided until 1910, when they moved to Hastings. Besides his wife and children he leaves to mourn his loss three sisters and two brothers, Mrs. William Kirk, Mrs. James Rudd and S. E. Hilsabeck of Illinois, J. C. Hilsabeck of Iowa and Mrs. J. M. Holder of Hastings. Also three grandchildren: Clark and Robert Hilsabeck and Mrs. L. C. Stratton. His children and sister, Mrs. Rudd and brother, S. E. Hilsabeck of Forrest, Ill., and a sister of Mrs. Hilsabeck, Mrs. Heath of Chicago, were all present at the funeral which was held from the First Methodist church in Hastings on Sunday afternoon and interment made in the Hastings cemetery.
