Leonard Ray Ghere, son of Russel and Inez (Neighbor) Ghere, was born March 3, 1932 on the family farm in Harper County, KS. He passed away Saturday, January 7, 2012 in Wesley Medical Center, Wichita at the age of 79.

Leonard grew up and attended the Harper Schools, until graduating with the class of 1950.

He was called to serve his country with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and served until his honorable discharge.

He returned to Wichita, Kansas where he has made his home since that time.

He began working for Foley Catapiller as a mechanic for about thirty-six years until retiring at the age of 62.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Howard Ghere.

He will be missed by four brothers, Raymond and wife, Marilyn Ghere of Sedgwick, KS, Clyde and wife, Sharol Ghere of Harper, KS, Carl and wife, Jude Ghere of Hutchinson, KS and Floyd and wife, Terry Ghere of Harper; one sister, Pauline and husband, Doug Oliver of Kansas City, KS; many loving nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Monday and from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at the Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Harper, Kansas with Richard "Dick" Busby officiating.

Interment will be held at the Danville Cemetery in Danville, Kansas.

Memorials may be given in memory of Leonard to the Wichita Children's Home and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
