The Oklahoman, December 30, 1970:
Harold R. Empie, 72, former president of Stock Yards Bank, died Tuesday at his home at 6917 N. Indedpendence. Services will be at 2 pm Thursday at Smnnith & Kernke Funeral Home with entombment in Rose Hill Abbey. Empie was born in Wellington, KS, and came to Oklahoma City with his famiy as a child.

He began his banking career as a messenger at the Oklahoma Stockyards National Bank when he was 17 years old. Three years later, he was named assistant cashier and within another five years we promoted to vice president and cahsier. In 1926 Empie joined Liberty National Bank & Trust Co. as the nation's youngest vice presiden, leaving in 1932 to become vice president and managing officer of the present Stock Yards Bank.

He was elected president in 1942 and served until 1963. He also served as chairman of the board for many years until his retirement in December 1968. Empie served as a member of the State Banking Board under Govs. E. W. Marland and Leon C. Phillips and has served on many other finacial and civic committees. He and his associates were instrumental in the formation of the First National Bank of Midwest City, the First State Bank & Trust Co. and a bank in Tucumcari, NM. Survivors include his wife, Juanita; a son, Robert, Oklahoma City; and a sister, Mrs Bertha Bowland, Deerfield, Ill.
