Emil was the son of Anna Ogren Blomquist and Alfred Blomquist. He suffered from epilepsy and was at the Dixon State Hospital when he died. The Dixon State Hospital originally was the Illinois State Colony for Epileptics and opened in 1918. When it expanded to care for those with other disabilities, the name was changed to the Dixon State Hospital and later the Dixon School.
