Our father was born in Burke-Burnett, Texas to Claude and Dora (Kyle) Simpson. The third of what would be 7 children all of whom were born in different location throughout Texas and Oklahoma. His father, like so many farmers, had lost their farm during the terrible drought conditions of the early 20th cent. and traveled with his family working on any farm where there was work. They eventually settled in OK where the bulk of the children were born.

His mother divorced his father in 1930 Due to his abuse and moved with the three youngest children to Tulsa, OK.. She began dating a gentleman, a young Baptist pastor, in 1932. My Grandfather learned of this and in a fit of jealous rage he traveled to Tulsa where his killed her and nearly killed her boyfriend. A horrible event which affected all of their children for the rest of their lives. With their father in prison, all of the children were sent to live in orphanages in OK. My father and his brothers grew up in one called The Wittaker Boys Ranch. A wonderful boys orphanage where they were given a loving home, family, a full high school education and learned devotion to their Christian faith. The Whittakers were a wonderful couple who took in and raised scores of homeless boys over many decades. God Bless them. The alumni of Whittaker to this day still meet every year for a reunion.

In early 1942 our father enlisted along with thousands of others and served in the Pacific for the next 3&1/2 years in WWII in the Army Air Corp ( now called the U.S. Air Force). He re-enlisted in 1949 and served in the Air Force for the next 4 years during the Korean War. 7&1/2 years of very honorable service.

He met our mother while working at Boeing Wichita in the late 1950s. My mother's first husband, Aaron Christensen, had died suddenly in 1958. My parents were maried in early "59" and my sister and I came along shorly. He left Boeing after several lay-offs and worked for the next 28 years as a maintenance electrician at Wichita State University retiring in early 1986. Although an electrician by trade he was a remarkable craftsman skilled in carpentry, plumbing, all manner of restoration and was master watch and clock repair man. Most of these skills were self taught. A well read man, he even taught himself to play the piano and studied late at night to earn a license as a real estate estimator.

Our father lived an honorable and upright life devoted to his wife and children. His faithfulness and constancy were remarkable and his keen intelligence shone through in all he did. He was survived in death by our mother Margaret, myself, my sister Diann (William) Valigura and brother Allan Christensen and grandson Micheal Cowel. Missed dearly and still loved much. Our father was a good, good man.
