Davene Bennett gained recognition for her years as
a foster parent in the Hatch Valley. She was given
long term placements at her Casa de Paz Children's
home in Hatch. She had previously set up similar homes
in California and Carlsbad, NM. She gained further recognition on a national televised documentary called
Wild Horses, Broken Wings. Horses to ride were
provided to as many as 15 children that lived at the
casa at one time. Ranchers donated horses to the casa
to help the children as a unique therapy. Davene
received awards for her work that included the Diana
Award from the Alpha Cota International Sorority and
the Good News Maker Award from Family Circle Magazine.
She was featured in many articles for her dedicated
work. Davene passed away January 25, 1985.
