Robert, a gunsmith, set up a gun factory prior to the Revolutionary War in what is now Robbins, North Carolina. Later he takes on a partner, David Kennedy from Pennslyvania, to whom he eventually sells the gun factory. It is reported that Davis supplied guns to Patriots during the War. Robert Davis and his wife Nancy Cheek, their son James C. Davis are buried at the Robert Davis homeplace, about 200 yards northeast of the old homeplace which is located on the South side of Deep River, four miles northeast of Putnam, North Carolina. The lettering on the tombstones are still legiable. Robert Davis enlisted in the Revolutionary War in 1782, served 18 months in Brevard Company 10th Regiment, North Carolina.
