He was described as being 5 feet 7 inches tall, with blue eyes, light hair, and a fair complexion. He married Rachel E. Wolfe on April 26, 1863 in Preston Co., WV. He died on February 13, 1911, and his death certificate says the cause of death was poisoning. He is buried in the Shay's Chapel Cemetery with his wife Rachel.
