Calvin R. Gagle, age 83, a resident of Portland, passed away on Friday, January 13, 2012 at his son's home in Fort Recovery, Ohio.
Calvin was born on August 27, 1928 in Mercer County, Ohio, the son of Linville and Regina (Killian) Gagle. He graduated from Fort Recovery High School in 1946. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1951 to 1953. He attended Noble Congregational Church and previously attended the Fort Recovery Church of the Nazarene. He farmed in Noble Township, Jay County, for several years and owned and operated Fort Recovery Laundry and Car Wash for over 20 years. Calvin married Clementine Teeters on November 16, 1958 and she passed away on December 18, 1997. He later married Dorothy Wiley on September 24, 2004.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Gagle, Portland, IN; one daughter, Cindy Bracy (husband-Bill) of Portsmouth, VA; one son, David Gagle (wife-Kasey) of Fort Recovery, Ohio; five step-daughters, Anita Wendel (husband-Brian) of Ossian, IN, Lois Wiley of Richmond, IN, Rita Wiley of Portland, IN, Lorie Overholser (husband-Jeff) of rural Portland, IN, and Julie Kohler (husband-Wes) of Ossian, IN; three sisters, Verla Roessner of Fort Recovery, OH, Alice Eichenauer (husband-Carrol) of Fort Recovery, OH, and Clara McWay of Lima, OH; 11 grandchildren and eight step-grandchildren.
Visitation for Calvin Gagle will be held on Sunday from 1-6 p.m. at the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 2 p.m. at the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland. Pastor Mike Murrel will officiate and burial will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery in Fort Recovery, Ohio.
Memorials may be directed towards State of the Heart Hospice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
