He was born on a farm northeast of Highland, and lived with his parents until 1887 when he came into Highland and was first engaged in the manufacture of butcher blocks on east Broadway with John Mueller for several years. He later became engaged in the real estate business in Highland and continued to live in Highland until about 1909 when he went to St. Louis and during his active years was engaged in the real estate business there.
