Services for Mr. Richard W. " Smitty" Klingensmith, Sr. (also known as "Pal") will be held Monday, January 16, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Marksville with Reverend Rene' Carmouche and Reverend James Tabor, officiating, respectively. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery #2. Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Marksville.
Mr. Klingensmith was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was born on August 4, 1931 in Stubenville, Ohio. He attended Ohio State University. He served 4 years in the Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War. He retired from the United States Postal Service after 30 years of service. Mr. Klingensmith was an active member of the American Legion Post #130, VFW, 48-8, and New Life Assembly of God Church in Mansura. He was a fisherman and a football fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin Klingensmith and Dorothy Sherburn, his wife, Maydell Ponthieux Klingensmith, and sister, Joyce Obbecke.
Survivors include his daughters, Linda Dauzat and husband Edward of Marksville, Debra Carmouche and husband Rene' of Marksville, son, Richard Klingensmith, Jr. and wife Theresa of Marksville, five grandchildren, David Dauzat and wife Jessica of Effie, Sheri Dauzat of Mansura, John Dauzat of Celebration, FL., Dustin Dauzat, and Daphne Klingensmith, both of Marksville, four great-grandchildren, Cameron Dauzat, Garrett Dauzat, Maylee Dauzat, and Anna Claire Dauzat.
Pallbearers for the service will be David Dauzat, John Dauzat, Dustin Dauzat, Elliott Guilbeau, Joseph Guilbeau, Nyx Bordelon and Van Descant.
An all-day visitation will be held on Sunday, January 15, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. and on Monday, from 8:00 a.m. until the time of services in the funeral home.
