W. S. ANDREWS, 81, DIES; WAS GUILDERLAND RESIDENT

William S. Andrews, 81, died Thursday, May 28 at the home of his sister in Guilderland following a short illness. On the Friday preceding his death, Mr. Andrews entered Albany hospital, and on the following Monday underwent an operation for an obstruction in the esophagus. He rallied at first, but his advanced age and frail conditions hastened his death, it is believed.

Mr. Andrews was born March 10, 1885. He came to Guilderland as a child of about four, with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. David Andrews, and an older brother. He had resided in Guilderland all his life with the exception of a few months at Goshen where he was employed in a foundry. His entire life was spent either in the employ of the Guilderland Foundry Co., or with the Acme Road Machinery Co.

He was affiliated with the Presbyterian church about 44 years ago, and four years later he was made an elder, an office which he held at the time of his death. He was a charter member of the Red Men.

He married Miss Emma Goodwin on April 22, 1891, at the home of his sister, Mrs. Ida Chapman, with Rev. Charles Warrik officiating. Mrs. Andrews died about 18 years ago.

Mr. Andrews will be much missed by the public. He was very active in church work. His efforts were spent in making life easier for those dear to him. His wife was an invalid for several years and she was given his constant attention. Following her death, Mr. Andrews and his sister, Mrs. Cramer (now deceased) lived together. She and her husband were ill for many years, and his kindness and attention were given to them. At Mrs. Cramer's death in February 1935, he went to live with his other sisters, and there he spent the remaining year of his life.

Mr. Andrews is survived by one brother, David Andrews, two sisters, Miss Jennie Andrews and Mrs. Harriet Hadley; also the following nieces and nephews, Miss Alice Andrews, Mrs. Russell Miller, Mrs. Joseph Van Atten, Miss Janet Hadley, Mrs. Jennie Kennedy, and Robert Andrews.

Funeral services were held from the late home Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock and were largely attended. Rev. George Pettingell, pastor of the Federated churches, officiated. Burial was made in Prospect Hill cemetery. The following friends acted as bearers: William Stephens, Jesse Wood, George Bigsbee, Fred DeGraffe, Harry Vosburg, and Russell Case.
