Obituary
Unidentified Newsclipping - 1887
MILLER.--Mrs. Thomas Miller, of Centreville, died at the home of her son, John S. Miller, Esq., M.P.P., on Sabbath, November 20th, 1887, attended in her last hours by her son and daughter, the latter, Mrs. R. J. Strong, of Napanee. Though her last illness was accompanied by much suffering yet she bore it with Christian fortitude, and died, as she had lived for so many years, trusting in Jesus. She was identified with the early Methodism of this country, having been a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church for over 60 years. Her youth was spent near the historic Switzer Chapel, where she met many of the fathers of Canadian Methodism as guests in her father's house. She was the eldest daughter of the late John Madden, Esq., of Ernestown, having been born May 15th, 1805. She married Thomas Miller, J.P., February 7, 1837, who died April 29th 1879. Christian Madden was a good, kind wife and mother, and was loved by a very large circle of relatives and neighbors, many of whom attended her funeral. Her remains were placed in the new vault at Centreville. The funeral sermon was preached at the Methodist Episcopal Church by her pastor, Rev. E. D. Lewis, assisted by the Rev. W. Smith, Presbyterian minister. The text chosen was 2nd Corinthians, 5th chapter, 1st verse. A large gathering of friends were present. She leaves one sister and three brothers, Miss Mary Ann, George, Sylvester and Richard Madden.
