His family moved from Salem, Indiana to Fresno, California where Robert grew up.
Robert arrived in Vietnam 6 March 1968 and was assigned to 2nd Platoon of Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 27th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. Robert was wounded by small arms fire during Operation Allen Brooks and died of his wounds before he was med-evac.
He served his country less than a year. Robert was single and was KIA #28,330.
Survived by his parents, Manuel and Virginia E Gonzalez, his 3 brothers, Jimmie, Jesse, Nathan and a sister, Dori all of Fresno, California.
