Margaret Ann Wood, was the daughter of Jerome B. Wood, a tobacco planter of Batesville, Virginia. She received her education in a private school for girls conducted by Mrs. Blaine, who was a niece of President Harrison. Completing her schooling there she entered Piedmont Academy and graduated in music at the age of sixteen under Professor Ignatius Varnschein, of Berlin, Germany. Piedmont Academy was founded by Professor J. W. Goss and was located near Cobham Depot, Virginia.

Martha married Capt. Henry Nicholas Burnley Wood.

She was the Head of Brown's Episcopal Institute, Lynchburg, VA.

Eleven Titles of 19TH Century sheet music were donated to the Fanny Arms Collection of American Sheet Music in the Ohio State University Library at Columbus, Ohio., in September, 1965.
