He worked for A & P Grocery for twenty-five years, then worked as a custodian for North Smithfield schools for ten years, and the North Smithfield Police Department for ten years. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Joseph loved to garden and was also a member of several senior citizens groups, including the St. Josephs senior citizens, North Smithfield senior citizens and the Golden Hearts senior citizens.
Joseph is survived by a daughter, Linda LaFrance of Lincoln; two step daughters, Diane Durand and husband Richard and Doreen Ezovski and husband Gary; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; as well as a brother, Abilio Azevedo of Portugal. He was preceded in death by a son Kenneth Azevedo and grandson, Michael Azevedo.
His funeral will be held Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at 10:00 AM from the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St. Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in St. John the Evangelist Church, 68 Church St. Slatersville. Burial with military honors will follow in the parish cemetery. Calling hours are Monday from 4-7 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rhode Island Chapter, 245 Waterman St #306, Providence, RI 02906.
