Hobert Cruse, Jr., age 81, of Marion, IL passed away at 8:25 a.m., on Sunday, January 15, 2012, in Herrin Hospital of Herrin, IL.
He was born on Tuesday, July 15, 1930, in rural Carterville, IL in Williamson County the son of Hobert and Donna (Moore) Cruse.
He was united in marriage to Barbara Masters on Saturday, December 24, 1955, in Marion, IL and to this union was born their daughter, Teena. Together he and Barbara shared forty three years of marriage until her death, January 7, 1999.
Junior regularly attended Pittsburg Free Will Baptist Church of Pittsburg, IL. He was a member of Fellowship Masonic Lodge No. 89 A.F. & A.M. of Marion, IL and member of the Scottish Rites Masonic Bodies in the Valley of Southern Illinois of Belleville, IL.
During his working career he was a heavy equipment operator. He worked out of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local Union 318 of Marion, being a member for over 50 years. He was involved in the construction of many major road projects including I-57, I-24, I-55 and Route 13 Corridor. He also was a member of the United Mine Workers of America.
Junior was an avid Harley Davidson rider. He and Barb covered all of the lower 48 states and made road trips into Mexico and Canada on their motorcycle while vacationing with friends. Some of his other interests included dancing, going to the Marion Senior Citizens Center and spending time with the local coffee crew in the afternoon and on weekend mornings.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Teena L. and Bruce Mayhew of Marion, IL and their children, Mark Mayhew and his wife, Heather of Jackson, MO and Melissa Moore and her husband, Tyson of Marion, IL; two stepdaughters, Curtis Ann Dahmer of Cambria, IL and her children, Rhonda Gulley north of St. Louis, MO, Gary Dahmer and his wife, Andrea of Anna, IL and Marcheeta Parks of Marion, IL and her children, Joey Clark and his wife, Beth of West Frankfort, IL and Jerrod Clark and his wife, Mindy of Benton, IL; half-brother, Donald Jackson and his wife, Kay of Marion, IL; ten great grandchildren, Mason, Marlee and Maksim Mayhew, Isabel Moore, Kayley DePriest, Sam Gulley, Abigail and Edward Dahmer and Kade and Kash Clark, many nieces and nephews, other extended family members and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Barbara.
Arrangements for Hobert "Junior" Cruse have been entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 N. Court Street, of Marion, IL.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 18, 2012, at Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie Donelson presiding.
Interment will follow in the Egyptian Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Energy, IL.
A time of visitation for family and friends will be on Tuesday, January 17th, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Masonic rites will be accorded at the funeral home at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening by Fellowship Masonic Lodge No. 89 A.F. & A.M. of Marion, IL.
For those who prefer, memorial contributions may be made to "Pittsburg Free Will Baptist Church" building fund or "Hospice of Southern Illinois".
