FINAL RITES FOR ERNIE CUMMINGS HELD IN GARRETT
Sudden Death Takes Former Resident


Funeral services for the late Ernie Lynwood Cummings of Pensacola, Fla., a former resident of Garrett, were held Sunday afternoon in the Garrett Masonic temple, with Masonic rites being performed by Garrett City lodge No. 537. F. & A. M., and Garrett chapter No. 129, R. A. M., and the Rev. W. T. Arnold. pastor of the Garrett Methodist church, delivering a sermon. Interment was made in the mausoleum in Calvary cemetery.

Mr. Cummings and his wife, the former Mary Paul of Garrett, went to Darlington, Ind., Sunday, Sept. 16, from Mount Vernon, Ill. On Tuesday Mr. Cummings complained of not feeling well and told his wife he had indigestion. During the night he became very ill and was removed in an ambulance to a hospital at Crawfordsville. His death took place Thursday morning at 4 o'clock, the cause being a heart attack.

The body was accompanied to Garrett by the widow and a son, Paul, of West Union, O. The remains were taken to the Geo. W. Iler mortuary and were removed to the Masonic temple Sunday morning.

Mr. Cummings was born in Akron, N. Y., on June 9, 1873, and formerly lived in Garrett. For twenty-five years he and his wife have made their home in Pensacola. He was a veteran carnival man and was engaged in that business when he died.

Surviving besides the widow and the son are two grandchildren.

Mr. Cummings was a member of the two Masonic lodges in Garrett, and of the Scottish Rite, the York Rite, Grotto and Shrine in Pensacola. He was also a member of the Pensacola Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary club and he owned and operated the Belmont theatre for twenty years. He was president of the Escanibia County Poultry Association for five years. He maintained a real estate brokerage office in Pensacola. owned a variety store in Peebels, O., and was the founder and the president and manager of the largest colored vaudeville booking agency in the world. He was a member of the First Methodist church at Pensacola and had been a steward in the church for several years.

Mr. and Mrs. Cummings' son, Paul, is a well known radio artist and sings frequently over station WLS, Cincinnati.
