Charles and Lucinda Darrow were married by Rev. John Mason Peck at Rock Spring Seminary. Although his father was a deacon in the the Rock Spring Baptist Church, O'Fallon township, IL, he never joined that congregation as a member. He did join the Oak Hill Baptist Church between O'Fallon and Lebanon, IL. Charles' estate records list the following heirs: widow Lucinda, children W. A. Bridges, H. H. Bridges. L. J. Bridges, and A. J. Bridges, dated 27 Jul 1897. His granddaughter Naomi Ida Bridges Evans reports that when the old Oak Hill Church was dismantled in 1953, the names of C. J. F. Bridges and Lucinda as members, along with many other old family names in the vicinity, were found in a bottle.

Charles was a veteran of the Mexican American war. He enlisted in Belleville, Illinois and was mustered in at Alton, Illinois on 16 Jun 1846. He served in Co. H of the Second Regiment. He was wounded by gunshot in his leg at the battle of Buena Vista, Mexico and was discharged at Camargo, Mexico on 19 Jun 1847.
