NORA, Va. – Bascom Slemp Johnson, 76, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday,
Aug. 18, 2004, at his home.

He was born in Dante, Va., son of the late Willie and Ida McReynolds Johnson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War. He was a retired miner and a member of the UMWA.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita Johnson; five daughters, Edith McCoy and husband Harold of St. Paul, Va., Teresa Hamilton and husband Harry of St. Paul, Joyce Tumidiski and husband Craig of Coeburn and Karen Dockery and husband
Marvin of Nora, Va; one son, Jonathan Johnson and wife Jennifer of Jonesborough,Tenn.; stepmother, Elizabeth Johnson of Nora; five sisters, Myrtle Elam of Castlewood, Ann Hayes of Coeburn, Marie McCoy of St. Paul, Lorrie Mullins of North Carolina and Nora Patrick of Dante; one brother, Lyndon B. Johnson of Nora; 10 grandchildren, Rebekah Brickey, Leslie Tumidiski, Ronnie Carico, Melissa Hamilton, Joshua Dockery, Amy Tumidiski, Sarah Hamilton, Susie Dockery, Hunter Johnson and Emily Johnson; three step-grandchildren, Marvin Dockery Jr.,
Michael Dockery and Mitchell Dockery; one great-grandchild, Nathaniel Brickey; one step-great-grandchild, Peyton Dockery, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, in Castlewood Funeral Home, Castlewood, with Rev. Mike Moore and Rev. Mitch Elliott officiating. Committal services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 20, 2004,
in Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood, with military rites by Highlands Fellowship Veterans Honor Guard of Abingdon. The family will meet at the funeral home and go in procession to the cemetery at 10:30 a.m. Friday. Pallbearers will
be nephews and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Bradford, Eddie Allen, Dr. Agarwal, Dr. Mitchell Farthing, Dr. Shukla, Dr. Fonseca, No. 2 Nurses Station at Norton Community Hospital and Norton Community Hospital respiratory therapists. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19,
