"William was born at 6 Jesus Lane (near Kings College), Cambridge, England CB5 8, United Kingdom. He was apprenticed to a white-smith in Cambridge in 1830 and was appointed town crier of Ely in 1836. He emigrated to the U.S., landing on March 9,1849, as cabin passengers with a servant. Subsequently they went north of NYC to Burnt Hills and then Wisconsin."
