On January 18th, Helen E. Baughman, 83, was escorted to heaven by God's angels, while surrounded by her loving family. She was a wonderful, loving mother, grandmother and friend and was an inspiration to us all. Her unwavering belief in God carried her through many trials in her life and she instilled her deep and abiding faith into her family. Helen was born on October 2, 1928, in Wilkinsburg, Pa. to Walter S. and Katherine Meyer. She graduated from Westinghouse High School in Pittsburgh, Pa in 1946. Helen married Robert S. Johnson in 1950 and received her Bachelor's degree in Nursing in 1951 from The University of Pittsburgh. Helen's parents moved to North East, Pa. in 1950 and Helen & Bob moved there after Helen's graduation from Nursing School. In 1961 they moved to Cocoa Beach, Florida with their three children. They returned to Harborcreek in1967 to be nearer family after Bob was diagnosed with cancer. Bob worked at the Harborcreek Post Office until his death in 1971. In 1973 Helen married Braden "Al" Aljoe. Al died in 1979. Helen was fortunate to find love again and was married in 1981 to George W. "Wes" Baughman. In 1984 Helen & Wes moved to Florida and built their dream home on a lake in a small community. They both continued to work and enjoyed time with friends and family and loved to "putter" around the house and in the yard. Helen worked as an RN until her retirement in 1997. She always said that she was "blessed" to be able to use her nursing skills to care for Wes in their home after he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Wes died in 2009 after a lengthy illness. When Helen's health deteriorated she moved to Meridian, Idaho in 2010 to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Ed & Lorrie Sweet. The family wishes to thank Heart N' Home Hospice for making it possible for her to live and die with comfort, peace and dignity in her home. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother (Walter A. Meyer), her husbands and one grandson. She is survived by her sister, Elsie (Andy) Miller from North East, Pa.; her three children- Lorrie (Ed) Sweet of Meridian, Idaho, Jackie (Jack) Carle of Canyon Lake, Texas and Mark Johnson of Paradise, Texas; seven grandchildren and ten Great-Grandchildren. A memorial service was held in Meridian, Idaho at the time of her death. Internment of her ashes will take place at North East Cemetery, under the direction of the W. Tad Bowers Funeral Home, North East, PA, on Saturday, May 12th, 2012 at 10 a.m. Rev. David Kuchta will officiate.
