Carol Nielsen Wallace Acomb (Tutu), age 86, passed away in her sleep on January 19, 2012, five years after the passing of her lifetime friend and beloved husband Glenn M. Acomb.
She was born July 14, 1925 to Ruel B. and Luella Nielsen in Axtell, Utah. She is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Her testimony of the gospel has guided her life. With her daughter Wendy, she has compiled and published books of family history on her ancestry.
Tutu was fourteen years old when her mother passed away. She graduated from Gunnison Valley High School in 1943 and moved to Salt Lake City, where she took courses in modeling, using a comptometer, and becoming a travel agent.
She enjoyed her careers and associations with Firestone during WWII, sixteen years at Duracraft as a bookkeeper, and twenty years in the travel business associated with Windjammer, Morris, and Thomas Travel as a travel agent and cruise director for Royal Cruise Line.
She loved planning and guiding tour groups to Hawaii and throughout the world. She has been on 125 cruises and seventy-five trips to Hawaii and has friends all over the world.
As a member of Beta Sigma Phi since 1947, she served in many offices and chapters and as president of the Salt Lake City Council from 1964-1965. Her sisters of Beta Sigma Phi will honor her with a broken circle ceremony at 5:30 p.m. prior to the viewing on Sunday at Larkin Mortuary.
Tutu has enjoyed playing bridge for over sixty years with many dear friends. She has also served on the board of the Utah CV Credit Union. Tutu leaves a legacy of love and service.
Survivors include her daughter Wendy Smith (Stewart) and seven grandchildren: Heather Moore (Chad), Blake Russon (Stacy), Megan Dangerfield (Brandon), Christopher Russon (Leslie), Sara Smith, Patrice Monson, and Jeffery Smith. She has thirteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Lloyd Nielsen, her sister Norma Andersen, and her husband Glenn Acomb.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 23, 2012 in the Highland Park Ward Chapel, 2535 South Douglas Street (1240 East). Friends and family may visit on Sunday evening between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple Street, and one hour prior to the services in the Highland Park Ward Building.
Interment will be in the Manti City Cemetery.
