Mal was born to Evan and Jennie Closs on a farm south of Wymore, Nebraska. HE attended Pleasant View, District 81 thru the 8th grade. He graduated from Wymore High School in 1930. Mal served as a Staff Sgt.in the U. S. Army in World War II. He married Vera R. Cady, no children were born to this union. Mal was employed by the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement. He was a member of the Wymore Presbyterian Church. Mal was an accomplished singer and sang in a quartet with his brother, Ellsworth Closs and other members. They sang for many events in the surrounding communities. Mal was very proud of his Welsh heritage and was instrumental in helping move the District 81 country school to the McCandless Park in Wymore to preserve this school which was started by the Welsh community in the early 1800's.
