Father: Bill Atkinson

Siblings: Edward, Junior, Urban, Pauline, Jo Ella

Ottis' first wife, Geneva Seibert, states in the book "Our Stories, Legend of the Mounds, The Medicine Mound Settlers' Community Scrapbook" Collected and Edited by Bill Neal that Ottis and another wife were found shot to death in their home in Arkansas in 1953. Ottis murdered his wife with two shots to the head. Ottis was shot in the stomach with another gun by someone else . He knew he would either die or have to face trial for murder, so he put the gun to his own head. The other gun was never located nor was the other shooter ever named. These are assumptions made by Geneva.

Geneva had his body returned to Medicine Mound for services and burial.

Permission to quote stories from the above book was given to Jeanene Stermer of the Downtown Medicine Mound Museum for purpose of preserving local history. There is additional information of Ottis and his wife Geneva in the book, beginning on page 23.
