David W. Schick, 87, former superintendent of the Martston Co., died Friday of a heart attack in Pasadena. He had been living in Pasadena for the last five years. He was Marston superintendent from 1913 to 1941.
Schick, an active Mason and civic worker, originated the Masonic observance of Flag Day here. He was a past master of Blackmer Masonic Lodge, which will conduct graveside services Wednesday at Greenwood Memorial Park.
The graveside services will follow funeral rites at 2 p.m. in the Mission Hills Congregational Church. Schick was active in that church for many years.
He was also active in the Scottish Rite bodies here, was a member of Al Bahr Shrine, and of the Rotary Club. For a number of years he was chairman of the board of the YMCA.
A native of Gettysburg, Pa., Schick was in the drygoods business in Chicago and Portland, Ore., before coming to San Diego in 1913.
He is survived by
his widow, Mabel;
a son, Col. Lawrence E. Schick, a department head at West Point Military Academy;
a stepdaughter, Mrs. Kay Heidner of Pasadena,
two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
