Raymond Herman "Ray" Hanson, 84, Tulelake, died Feb. 5, 1999, of lung cancer in Klamath Falls.
Mr. Hanson was born in Hector, Minn., to Carl and Bertha (Otto) Hanson.
The youngest of nine children, he quit school after the eighth grade and, with two of his brothers, came via railroad to Klamath Falls.
He worked in road construction and later served in the Army during the Korean War.
He was wounded when a grenade blew up near him, causing him to lose hearing in his left ear.
He met his future wife, Lorna May Mitchell, in the Klamath area and married her in 1949 in Healdsburg, Calif.
The couple settled in Tulelake and raised cattle, chickens and hogs.
After several years, Mr. Hanson began work for the Fish and Wildlife Department, where he was a heavy equipment operator. He retired in February 1982 to stay home and care for his wife who had suffered a stroke.
He enjoyed working in his vegetable garden and tilling the soil for hay to feed his animals. He also enoyed hunting wild game.
Mr. Hanson was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, David and Sheri Hanson of Klamath Falls, Paul and Betty Hanson of Kennewick, Wash.; daughter Judy Ash of San Bernadino, Calif.; daughter and son-in-law, Katheryn and Dennis Crews of Willits, Calif.; grandchildren, Cristen and Mike Crews of Willits, Jeff and Jared Hanson of Klamath Falls, Chris Ash and Terry and Laurie Moffit of San Bernadino, Tomy Moffit of Sacramento, and Jason Brooks of Austin, Tex.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, six brothers and two sisters.
